Meet the Board

Angela Phillips, President, is the President and CEO of Middletown Tube Works, Inc., and Shelby Welded Tube. She moved to Middletown when her father purchased the Armco Steel Tube division in 1994 and she took on the role of Division Manager and later, Vice President. Both companies manufacture welded steel tube for Automotive, heating and other applications. She became President of the group of manufacturers after the unexpected death of her father, Ralph Phillips in September 2009. Angela is a graduate of Hiram College, with dual degrees in Political Science and Economics. She is a member of the Cincinnati chapter of the Women Presidents’ Organization. She and her husband have two children, Sydney, who has performed in several plays, and Ralph.

Dan Clark, Vice President, currently works as a claim manager for CNA Insurance, specializing in the defense of medical professionals.  He is a 1998 graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and he is licensed to practice in both Ohio and Kentucky.  Prior to working in the insurance field, Dan practiced law at Dinsmore & Shohl in Cincinnati, focusing on drug product liability and medical malpractice cases.  In addition to serving on the PAA Board, Dan is a councilman for the City of Monroe.  He also serves on the boards of the Monroe Historical Society and the Monroe Lions Club.  Dan and his wife Kelly have a daughter, Erin, who has been performing with PAA since 2009.

Helen Stevens-Gleason, graduated from William Woods University, Fulton, MO, with a BA in Education, and a minor in music, and a MA in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is a life-long Middletonian and taught for 40 years at Hunter School in Franklin City Schools. Helen sings in the choir at The Church of the Ascension, where she is a lay reader, lay Eucharistic minister, member of hand bell choir, and a member of the vestry. She is a member of Phi Beta Psi, raising money for cancer research. Helen serves on the boards of Middletown Symphony Orchestra, CHAPS Butler County Historical Organization, and Middletown Symphony Orchestra Women’s Organization, Middletown Civic Chorus, and The Messiah.  She is a member of Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of the American Colonists, WHIMS, Middletown Historical Society, the Middletown Art Center, and the recording secretary of The Middletown Garden Club.

Helen is married to Rick Stevens-Gleason, and they have two beautiful and talented daughters, Aggy and Anny.

Peggy Davish, Treasurer, worked as an Executive Secretary in the Armco offices for 15 years,  as  Director of the Middletown Arts Center for 15-1/2 years, and in the office of a local church for 5 years.  She and her husband Steve have been life-long church and community volunteers and recent PAA volunteers.  She and Steve have two adult children, and four grandchildren.

Virginia Haus Jenkins, married to Chester McCullough Jenkins (60 years.) She sings in the choir First United Methodist where she serves on Missions Commission, The Salvation Army  Program Chairman and Board Member. She is also active in Middletown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs, Chairman of Arbor day Funding, Historian,  Middletown Symphony Orchestra Board , Corresponding Secretary, Pops Concert Chair person, Middletown Symphony Orchestra Women’s Association Board and President of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter (Ohio Beta Phi) Virginia and Chester have three children, 5 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Anita Scott Jones was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama.  She has a B.S. degree, a masters in Business Administration and is in the process of completing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Anita comes to us with a broad spectrum of work experiences.  She was a recruiter for the District Attorney’s office in Montgomery, Alabama, taught at Brown Mackie College in Cincinnati and is presently employed by the Atrium Medical Center as the Hospital Relations Manager. She is is currently teaching at Cincinnati State Middletown, a member of the executive committee of the Warren County Municipal League, presides on the advisory board of the Atrium Family UMCA and an alternate to the Ohio, Kentucky, Indian Board of Governments. She and her husband, Lyndon Lorenzo, have resided in Middletown for the past fourteen years.

Patty Keith graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  She then received her Master of Education from Wright State University in Teacher Leadership.  She works for Monroe Local Schools where she teaches 4th grade. She has taught for 17 years. She is married to her husband Mike Keith, and they have three children, Cody, Carson and Cassie.  All three of their children have performed plays with the Performing Arts Academy.

Mike Trent, a graduate of Miami University, majoring in Finance. He has worked in the banking and finance sector for the past 26 years. He takes an active role in the Middletown community by volunteering to support St. John XXIII Elementary School PTO, Holy Family Athletics and various charitable organizations. Mike believes that a Fine Arts program is an integral part of a child’s education and is now an active board member of the Performing Arts Academy. Mike is married to Vicki Trent and has a son, David and a daughter, Catie who has performed in numerous PAA productions.

Former Board Members

Elaine Garver, Secretary, is a graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education.  She has spent most of her career in the non-profit arena serving as a preschool teacher, Director of Patient Relations and Volunteer Services at Middletown Regional Hospital, Development Director at Abilities First and Hospice Care of Middletown, and currently Development Officer at the Middletown Community Foundation.  In addition she is serving her 4th term on the Governing Board of the Butler County Educational Service Center and is involved in several service organizations including Rotary, Soroptimist and P.E.O.  and serves on the boards and committees of the Rotary Foundation, Middletown Area Senior Citizens, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, Middletown Area,  Monroe Historical Society and Monroe Area Community Foundation.  She and her husband Donald Garver are life-long residents of the Middletown/Monroe area and have three daughters and three granddaughters and one grandson.

Sarah Cunningham is a graduate of The Ohio State University, double majoring in Spanish and International Studies.  Additionally, she has earned an M.B.A. from Wright State University.  She has worked in the local government, non-profit and private sectors.  Currently, she is on the Board of the Performing Arts Academy.  A life-long resident of Middletown, she is married and has two children.

Michele Poland, married to Brian, with three children, Nick, Sarah and Bri. Sarah and Bri have been in several of PAA’s performances; including Peter Pan, Aristocats, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Annie, Bandstand, Wizard of Oz, Charlie Brown Christmas, and Alice in Wonderland. Michele enjoys working as a Marketing Coordinator for Huff Realty.  She is a regular volunteer at PAA, and also serves on the board and volunteers at Cornerstone Methodist Church. She loves the arts, photography, dancing, and theater. In her spare time she loves watercolor painting, jewelry making, crafting, reading, and scrapbooking.
